Andreas Peichl war bis Januar 2005 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Finanzwissenschaftlichen Forschungsinstitut an der Universität zu Köln (FiFo) und am Lehrstuhl von Prof. Dr. Clemens Fuest. Von 1999-2001 studierte er BWL an der Philipps-Universität Marburg und von 2001-2004 VWL an der Universität zu Köln. Seit 2002 war er als studentische Hilfskraft am Lehrstuhl Prof. Dr. C. Fuest und seit 2004 auch am FiFo tätig. Nach seiner Promotion war er ab September 2008 beim Forschungsinstitut zur Zukunft der Arbeit GmbH (IZA), Bonn als Senior Research Associate tätig. Prof. Dr. Andreas Peichl war von Oktober 2013 bis Mai 2017 am ZEW beschäftigt und ist seit Juni 2017 Research Associate des ZEW. Er kooperiert besonders eng mit der Forschungseinheit "Internationale Verteilungsanalysen". Ab Juni 2017 ist er neuer Leiter des ifo Zentrums für Makroökonomik und Befragungen. Zusätzlich ist Andreas Peichl Professor für Volkswirtschaftslehre insb. Makroökonomie und Finanzwissenschaft an der LMU München.
